The Place on Dalhousie by Melina Marchetta

The Place on Dalhousie by Melina Marchetta

This book is a story about Rosie and Jimmy, who meet briefly at a time in their lives when they are both running from their pasts. Two years later, when they re-enter each other lives, everything has changed and Rosie and Jimmy are forced to confront both their pasts and the people from them. Many of the characters in this novel have previously appeared in Marchetta’s books, Saving Francesca and The Piper’s Son, which means that for some readers, this story will be like visiting old friends, and for others, they will be meeting them for the first time.

As with all of Melina Marchetta’s books, The Place on Dalhousie is predominantly about the characters, their lives, and their relationships with one another. Through her writing you see that the author truly understands the inner working of people and how they think and act. This book is a beautiful exploration of love, loss and finding what it means to belong.
