Scrublands by Chris Hammer

Scrublands by Chris Hammer

Set in a small country town that is enduring severe drought and dangerous bushfires, this story centres around Martin Scarsden, a journalist writing a follow-up piece one year on from a horrific massacre carried out by a local priest. As he investigates, Martin starts to realise there is much more to this story than originally reported.

I have not enjoyed a crime novel this much in a long time. It is a slow burn which gives the reader lots of time to get to know the characters. The skilfully woven plot and the well-rounded, complex characters really drive this novel and make it very compelling. This is definitely a must read for those who love a good crime novel.
